Ruth M. Shoemaker, PhD
Licensed Psychologist/Clinical Director
Dr. Shoemaker is a Mississippi licensed psychologist with over 20 years experience working with children, adolescents and adults. She does individual, family and marital counseling. Psychological testing, biofeedback, life/job coaching, Cogmed working memory coaching, consultation and divorce/custody mediation are also provided.
Dr. Shoemaker obtained her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver, a Masters' Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado, and undergraduate degree from Olivet Nazarene University. She is licensed in Mississippi, Illinois, Arizona, Colorado and Pennsylvania. She has taught graduate psychology classes at the University of Colorado and Gwynedd Mercy College. Her dissertation was entitled: Adolescent Chemical Dependency: Pretreatment,Treatment and Posttreatment Factors affecting Outcome. It was published in the Journal of Adolescent Chemical Dependency. She received the Rocky Mountain Student Research Award for research leading to her master's thesis entitled Custody Mediation: The effects of including children in the Custody Mediation Session. Dr. Shoemaker has had advanced training in EMDR Therapy, Substance Abuse and Addiction, Biofeedback, Cogmed Working Memory Training, and Coaching. She is the 2018 Past President of the Mississippi Psychological Association.
Kathryn K. Waggoner, Psy.D., ABPP
Licensed Clinical Health Psychologist
Dr.Waggoner is a board certified clinical health psychologist who earned her doctorate in clinical psychology at Wright State University, and her bachelor's degree in psychology at Baylor University. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical health psychology at the San Antonio Military Medical Center, the largest Level I trauma hospital in the Department of Defense. Her specialty training centered on the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of illness and disability She has advanced training in behavioral sleep medicine, chronic disease management, interprofessional team dynamics, and integrative psychological evaluations/assessment.
Throughout her career, Dr. Waggoner has worked as a clinician and behavioral health consultant in a number of medical clinics, including primary care, neurology/pulmonology (sleep), endocrinology, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation and pain management. Additionally, she worked at the Air Force's medical headquarters as a program manager for primary care behavioral health, and most recently was the clinical director for this program at a military hospital in Japan.
We are fortunate to have Dr. Waggoner join Anchor Psychology Center. She will be doing psychological evaluations/assessment for a variety of issues including pre-surgical bariatric, pain pumps, organ transplants, and spinal cord stimulator evaluations. Additionally, she will be conducting all age group evaluations for many disorders including ADHD, mood and anxiety disorders, behavioral disorders, learning and dyslexia, dementia, Alzheimer's, intellectual disabilities, etc.
She will be doing therapy with children and adults who suffer from insomnia, chronic pain disorders, depression, anxiety, medical illnesses and disease management issues, physical disabilities and behavior problems. She has training and experience with police, firefighters, military and veteran's treatment.
Karen Zittleman, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Karen attained a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Home Economics from the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. Most recently and currently she works as the Social Services Regional Director for the State of Mississippi Department of Health, District IX. She has worked there in this and other capacities since 2012. Previously she has worked in the Hospice field for Deaconess Hospice/Homecare, Trinity Hospice, Kare-in-Home Health, and Sta-Home Hospice. In addition, Karen has worked for Family & Children Services, Child Support Enforcement, and as an eligibility worker with the Harrison County Office of MS DHS, division of Economic Assistance.
Ms. Zittleman holds national memberships in NASW Academy of Certified Social Workers and the National Association of Social Workers. She received the Illona Marquez Jones Award in 2002 and has been the president of Gulf Coast Toastmasters,
We are so fortunate to have Karen join our clinical team with her extensive experience in providing and supervising mental health care. At the Anchor Psychology Center she provides therapy to adults, adolescents and children in a part-time capacity.
Marie Ganschow, LPC, CAADC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor
Ms. Ganschow obtained a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Midwestern State University in Witchita Falls, TX. She has experience and advanced training in addictions. She attained the Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor certificate. She has worked in the mental health area since 2001 in several settings including Gulf Coast Mental Health Centers, the YMCA, Jackson County Juvenile Drug Court, an intensive outpatient program at Psycamore, LDS Family Services and private practice.
She previously obtained a Master's Degree in Education for Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas. She worked in the education field at the University of Illinois and in school districts in Utah, Arkansas and Texas.
We sincerely welcome Marie to our staff where she will be working with all age groups with individuals, couples and groups. Her experience and training in addictions is greatly appreciated.
Julie Marie Forrest, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Ms. Forrest obtained Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Psychology degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. She a completed additional coursework toward Addiction Certification. Her work at the Gulf Coast Mental Health Center included various positions. She worked as a clinician in the seniors and adult programs and was the program director of community support services. Most recently she worked for the Veterans Health Administration in Ganesville, FL as a mental health social worker. Previously she worked for the Mississippi Department of Mental Health in Project Recovery in Pearl, MS providing crisis-counseling services. At Gulf Oaks Hospital she worked with individuals and groups and assisted in the day school treatment program with adolescents.
At Anchor Psychology Center Julie works with adolescents, adults and seniors in individual and groups settings. We are fortunate to have her join our staff.
Dennita Reamer, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Ms.Reamer obtained a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Alaska. She has twenty years of experience in the helping field. She spent six years working specifically with children in play therapy as well as other therapies in addition to providing family and group therapy. Her work has included mediation and crisis intervention. Additionally, she has worked in homeless shelters and community mental health inpatient and outpatient settings. She has completed hospice training, has worked at a Veterans Administration outpatient facility, provided home health care for home bound clients, as well as work with dual diagnosis clients with substance abuse and addictions problems.
We are fortunate to have Ms. Reamer join our staff. Her extensive training and experience adds significantly to provision of effective therapeutic treatment for our clients. At the Anchor Psychology Center, Dennita will work with a variety of clients. Her extensive training and experience with children and families will be a major focus with play therapy and parent training. She will be providing parenting classes and social skills groups for children.
Rachel Raley, MSW
Master Social Worker
Ms. Raley obtained a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Ms. Raley has 10 years experience working with children, adolescents, adults and families. She has provided patients with chronic care education for diabetes and hypertension and also assisted patients with various resources and service options. She has experience with DBT and Art Therapy groups. She created a Mindfulness-Stress Reduction Group for adults and led family therapy sessions to help children interact and express themselves effectively, as well as taught behavior modification, anger management, positive social skills, problem-solving and emotion regulation skills.
We are fortunate to have Rachel join our staff to provide therapy services for children, adolescents, and adults. She will provide individual and group therapy.
Amanda Clemmons, MA
Ms. Clemmons obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Mobile and has a specialty in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix. She has worked as a child and adolescent therapist in Foley and Fairhope, AL. She has experience working with a wide range of issues ranging from adjustment disorders to ADHD to serious abuse and trauma. She has held several positions as a substance abuse counselor. As a Spanish teacher she won a new teacher academy grant and worked with ADHD students on behavior modification. She has taught French also. Additionally, she is a published author of inspirational /motivational studies. We are pleased to have Amanda at the Anchor Psychology Center. She does individual, family and group therapy with children, adolescents and adults.
Malonei Clay, MS
Psychometrist, Intake Specialist
Ms. Clay obtained a Master of Science in School Counseling from Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. She is currently working on a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Capella University. She previously worked as a psychometrist for in Atlanta. At Cobb County 911 she worked as an Emergency Communications Operator answering calls and dispatching police, fire, and EMS in response to calls.
We are fortunate to have Ms. Clay join our staff where she administers testing under the supervision of Dr. Shoemaker. Additionally, she gathers histories and current information about individuals who are needing psychological testing and evaluation.
