Ruth M. Shoemaker, PhD
Licensed Psychologist/Clinical Director
Dr. Shoemaker is a Mississippi licensed psychologist with over 20 years experience working with children, adolescents and adults. She does individual, family and marital counseling. Psychological testing, biofeedback, life/job coaching, Cogmed working memory coaching, consultation and divorce/custody mediation are also provided.
Dr. Shoemaker obtained her Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Denver, a Masters' Degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Colorado, and undergraduate degree from Olivet Nazarene University. She is licensed in Mississippi, Illinois, Arizona, Colorado and Pennsylvania. She has taught graduate psychology classes at the University of Colorado and Gwynedd Mercy College. Her dissertation was entitled: Adolescent Chemical Dependency: Pretreatment,Treatment and Posttreatment Factors affecting Outcome. It was published in the Journal of Adolescent Chemical Dependency. She received the Rocky Mountain Student Research Award for research leading to her master's thesis entitled Custody Mediation: The effects of including children in the Custody Mediation Session. Dr. Shoemaker has had advanced training in EMDR Therapy, Substance Abuse and Addiction, Biofeedback, Cogmed Working Memory Training, and Coaching. She is the current president-elect of the Mississippi Psychological Association.
Gaela S. Youngblood, PsyD
Dr.Youngblood is a Mississippi licensed psychologist who obtained her doctorate from The George Washington University, Center for Professional Psychology. She studied Religion and Personality at Vanderbilt University and attained a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Education from Centenary College of Louisiana. She was a staff psychologist at Family Psychology and Counseling in Shreveport, LA, worked for Social Security Disability Determination, was an assistant professor of Clinical Services at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center. She has also done work at theSchool of Allied Health Professions, Children's Center, and was a senior psychologist at Florida State Hospital in Dialectical Behavior Therapy Services. In addition, she was a psychology resident at the Manatee Glens Corporation Adolescent Recovery Center, a residential alcohol and drug treatment facility. At the University of Puget Sound Counseling Health and Wellness Services in Tacoma, WA, she was a Clinical Psychology Intern and at The George Washington University Center Clinic, Washington, DC she completed a Clinical Psychology Externship. She was a research assistant for MGT of America, Tallahassee, FL and was Florida Psychological Association President of the Capital Chapter in 2006.
Dr. Youngblood provides therapy to all age groups and conducts psychological evaluations and testing as well.
Sara Montague Miller, MS, LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Sara obtained her Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from the university of Southern Mississippi. She received her undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree from Emory & Henry College, in Emory, VA. She has worked in outpatient mental health for several years and has done technical writing for textbooks. In addition, she has training and experience in administering, scoring and interpreting numerous psychological tests. Ms. Miller has done research and presentations on various topics including spirituality and career, parenting, vocational psychology, and attitudes regarding men and women in nontraditional careers.
Sara does individual psychotherapy with children, adolescents, and adults. She uses her training in psychological testing to assist in administering numerous tests in our office.
Scott Cardin, PhD
Dr. Cardin is a Mississippi licensed psychologist who obtained his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Texas A&M University, a Master's degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas, and a Bachelor's degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Advanced Psychology with and emphasis in research at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center.
He is currently the Director of Training and a Clinical Psychologist at the VA Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System in Biloxi. He was the Rural Health Coordinator for the Mississippi Psychological Association. In addition, Dr. Cardin has taught part-time at the University of Southern Mississippi and Tulane University.
Dr. Cardin works part time and provides individual therapy to adults. In addition he runs very successful therapy groups including Mindfulness Meditation, Anxiety Management, and a Depression Process Group at our office.
Karen Zittleman, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Karen attained a Master of Social Work from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Home Economics from the Mississippi University for Women in Columbus, MS. Most recently and currently she works as the Social Services Regional Director for the State of Mississippi Department of Health, District IX. She has worked there in this and other capacities since 2012. Previously she has worked in the Hospice field for Deaconess Hospice/Homecare, Trinity Hospice, Kare-in-Home Health, and Sta-Home Hospice. In addition, Karen has worked for Family & Children Services, Child Support Enforcement, and as an eligibility worker with the Harrison County Office of MS DHS, division of Economic Assistance.
Ms. Zittleman holds national memberships in NASW Academy of Certified Social Workers and the National Association of Social Workers. She received the Illona Marquez Jones Award in 2002 and has been the president of Gulf Coast Toastmasters,
We are so fortunate to have Karen join our clinical team with her extensive experience in providing and supervising mental health care. At the Anchor Psychology Center she provides therapy to adults, adolescents and children in a part-time capacity.
James Pinkston, LMSW
Licensed Master Social Worker
Mr.Pinkston obtained a Masters of Social Work from Tulane University in New Orleans and a Bachelors of Social Work from the University of Mississippi. He completed an internship on the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He worked for almost 2 years at the Gulf Coast Mental Health Center in Gulfport, MS with the family, adolescent, and child team. He worked at the Counseling Center in Biloxi, MS and was responsible for adult, children, and couples counseling.
We are fortunate to have James join the Anchor Psychology Center clinical staff. He works with individuals of all ages in individual, family, couples, and group therapy. He incorporates biofeedback and objective testing in cases where appropriate.
Amanda Clemmons, MA
Ms. Clemmons obtained a Master of Arts Degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Mobile and has a specialty in Secondary Education from the University of Phoenix. She has worked as a child and adolescent therapist in Foley and Fairhope, AL. She has experience working with a wide range of issues ranging from adjustment disorders to ADHD to serious abuse and trauma. She has held several positions as a substance abuse counselor. As a Spanish teacher she won a new teacher academy grant and worked with ADHD students on behavior modification. She has taught French also. Additionally, she is a published author of inspirational

Marie Ganschow, LPC, CAADC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor
Ms. Ganschow obtained a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Midwestern State University in Witchita Falls, TX. She has experience and advanced training in addictions. She attained the Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor certificate. She has worked in the mental health area since 2001 in several settings including Gulf Coast Mental Health Centers, the YMCA, Jackson County Juvenile Drug Court, an intensive outpatient program at Psycamore, LDS Family Services and private practice.
She previously obtained a Master's Degree in Education for Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Texas. She worked in the education field at the University of Illinois and in school districts in Utah, Arkansas and Texas.
We sincerely welcome Marie to our staff where she will be working with all age groups with individuals, couples and groups. Her experience and training in addictions is greatly appreciated.
Julie Marie Forrest, LCSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Ms. Forrest obtained Master of Social Work and Bachelor of Psychology degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. She a completed additional coursework toward Addiction Certification. Her work at the Gulf Coast Mental Health Center included various positions. She worked as a clinician in the seniors and adult programs and was the program director of community support services. Most recently she worked for the Veterans Health Administration in Gainsville, FL as a mental health social worker. Previously she worked for the Mississippi Department of Mental Health in Project Recovery in Pearl, MS providing crisis-counseling services. At Gulf Oaks Hospital she worked with individuals and groups and assisted in the day school treatment program with adolescents.
At Anchor Psychology Center Julie works with adolescents, adults and seniors in individual and groups settings. We are fortunate to have her join our staff.
